Within 24 months of initial licensure, Podiatric Physicians are required to obtain five (5) hours of continuing education in the subject area of Risk Management. This CECH may be obtained by attending one full day of a meeting of the Florida Board of Podiatric Medicine at which disciplinary hearings are conducted, as provided in Rule 64B18-17.005, Florida Administrative Code.
Please note that the Florida Board of Podiatric Medicine voted to amend rule 64B18-17.005 on October 20, 2023. This proposed rule amendment was published on February 7, 2024 (see proposed amended verbiage in red font below). FPMA was not apprised of this change until February 15, 2024.
64B18-17.005 Continuing Education Requirements After Initial Licensure.
Within 24 months of initial licensure, practitioners are required to obtain five (5) hours of continuing education in the subject area of risk management which may be obtained by attending one full day of a meeting of the Board of Podiatric Medicine at which disciplinary hearings are conducted. The practitioner is then exempt from any other continuing education requirements for his or her first renewal except for a 1-hour course on human trafficking and the hours mandated for prevention of medical errors,andHIV/AIDS, and the safe and effective prescribing of controlled substances.
Once the Risk Management requirement is fulfilled, the practitioner's only remaining continuing education requirements for his or her first renewal are:
