Home Study Courses

If you can't make it to the FPMA Science and Management Symposium (SAM) held every year in January in Orlando, FPMA can help you meet some of your required hours with home study options.

Unsure about your current hours? Members can contact FPMA for a copy of their CME report.

When considering home study courses, please keep in mind the guidelines for CMEs as established by the Board of Podiatric Medicine:
Note: Practice Management is NOT required - only three hours of Practice Management may be counted per biennium.

Notice to

 Podiatric X-Ray Assistants

Certified by the Board of Podiatric Medicine

You hold certificates issued by the Department of Health, Board of Podiatric Medicine, that begin with a "PXA" prefix. Those assistants certified by the Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control, are not included in this category.

YOU are on the same biennial renewal cycle as the podiatric physicians.  During this two year period, you must obtain 8 hours of continuing education, which includes the 2-hour mandatory Medical Errors course.

The Department of Health mails out renewal applications to both podiatric physicians and podiatric x-ray assistants during the months of November and December, prior to the end of the biennium. The current biennium is: April 1, 2008 - March 31, 2010.

If you do not receive your application for recertification from the Department, you can:

1. Contact the Licensing Division at (850) 410-3359.  Please do not call the Association. The Department of Health, Board of Podiatric Medicine, is the entity that issues this certification; the Association's role is to provide the course and test for both initial certification (upon passing, names are certified to the Department) and the course for recertification; or you can

2. Go to the Department's web site: www.doh.state.fl.us.  Board certified podiatric x-ray assistants are listed under the Medical Quality Assurance division.  Once you are at the home page, click on "licensing and permitting of health care professionals"; then click on "Medical Quality Assurance".  Review the pages and follow the instructions to download an application for recertification or to renew your certificate online.

We trust this information is helpful to you!
